New 20Th century pyramid

A particularly optimistic design firm in Dubai called Timelinks has proposed designs for the Ziggurat, a complete city to be layered inside of a massive pyramid that could serve as home for a million people at a time. Timelinks is currently seeking patents for a variety of technologies that would make such a building possible, including a three axis public transportation system that would run residents up, through and across the pyramid. They've also claimed that with a hybrid wind, solar and steam power the Ziggurat would be able to meet its own power needs, and that there would be enough room to allow for some minor agriculture in designated "green spaces."

E-ink comes to cellphone

I was immediately drawn to this E-Ink cellphone concept by Anthony Reed—probably because it's so shiny. And for a moment, I was completely sold. That was, until I realized that the buttons were stagnant, not necessarily designed for constantly altered layouts but instead resembling any old run of the mill handset.

aamartech

Still, the concept really is quite shiny and it's only time before e-inks get faster refresh times. So it's worth at least a moment of reflection as to the future of gadget design before we turn back to our LG Shines and Blackberries.

Ultrasonic Gaming

Like it when your game controller vibrates? You're part of the majority that ought to be impressed by all the goodness that haptic technology has to offer. Takayuki Iwamoto and his team at the University of Tokyo have developed a device that uses ultrasound waves to create invisible surfaces that you can feel, which means that eventually, you'll be able to poke your enemies in the eye, and feel the squish against your finger.

Called the Airborne Ultrasound Tactile Display, the device can only create fake surfaces in the vertical plane, and can't go beyond a certain intensity, lest it bust your eardrums. Eventually, though, the researchers hope to create a device that will let you interact with objects as you would in reality--squash soft stuff, bonk against hard surfaces, that sort of thing.

Windows 7 screenshot

It's raining screenshots -- shots of various setting panels and applications for Windows 7, Build 6780 have been released (leaked?) over at Thanks this site

aamartech

The screen grabs seem to confirm our worst fears -- that Windows 7 is going to be little more than a face-lift and some feature tucks, when compared to Windows Vista. Microsoft could yet be hiding something r/evolutionary under the ribboned-interface but at least we are not seeing it yet.

Phone Cameras To Tell You What You're Looking At

You've probably heard of geotagging--cameras interfacing with GPS devices to add location data to your photo, so you'll always know where that picture was taken. At the TechCrunch50 conference last week, a Japanese company called Tonchidot (weird English warning) showcased what may be the future of geotagging, called Sekai Camera.

aamartech

Here's how it works: Sekai uses GPS and your iPhone's camera to tell you what you re looking at. For example, if you were looking at, say, the Taj Mahal through the camera, the phone could tell you that, and perhaps a little history, too. In a supermarket, it could even tell you where products were, and what users thought of it.

This is all part of the quest for good, proper, Augmented Reality, which will change the way we look at the world. However, we mustn't discount the possibility that Sekai Camera may be a complete hoax--nobody has seen the actual product in action--just videos.

Bird nest stadium in your hand

If you thought the Bird's nest stadium was awesome, you can now have a miniature version of it right in the palm of your hands.

aamartech

Now you can have it in the form of an mp3 player and it is supposed to be an official and legit thing. The maximum capacity you can get is around 4GB. It's kind of a clever design however it doesn't seem to have a very good finish. If your interested you might want to scout some grey market areas where you probably would find one.

New video of iRiver Spinn

iRiver's sneak peek of its touchscreen media player Spinn at this year's Consumer's Electronics Show placed it in the favorites list of many. Finally, fans can now watch a video of the functioning deviceon YouTube

aamartech

Also dubbed as "the hinge", fans consider the 3.2-inch entertainment device to be iRiver's answer to Apple's iPod Touch. Spinn's analog toggle wheel (placed on its right) makes it a one-hand device where users can "flip" pages by pressing the silver colored hinge.

Spinn's WQVGA screen features 480x272 pixel resolution. It also has Bluetooth 2.0, Flash 2.0 gaming, and Digital Media Broadcasting (DMB) (where available).

As seen in the video, along with music and video playback, the player also supports FM Tuner, text reader, voice recording, as well as a dictionary.

While the price and availability of this innovative product is not known, it is certain that iRiver's Spinn will be available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities.

All-screen concept clamshell phone

A cell phone concept design termed Plica by James Piatt shows what a phone with just a screen would look like.

aamartech

This concept, which has dual touch screens and no physical buttons is a compelling idea and seems like the most logical way to solve the problem of having large screens while still maintaining a user interface. Maybe he was 'inspired' by the forthcoming V12 designs as well.

Moving balcony

For those of you who are always looking for the next luxury product to one-up your friends, you may be interested in the newest addition to Country Coach’s line of luxury motor coaches.

aamartech

A high-end motor coach is the Rolls Royce of the RV industry. I’m sure you’ve seen those opulent homes on wheels that give a new meaning to the word “roughing it”. They have automated pull out sections that turn a semi-cramped space into a roomy and relaxing haven in the ummm… great outdoors.

But now you can add a private balcony to your list of amenities. Though I still like the awnings with your own private space outside, the idea of pushing a button and having your own veranda in about 20 seconds is pretty appealing too.

The Country Coach Veranda series has been designed to transform your living area into a luxury suite. At its core, the Veranda deck is a 4′6″ wide by 13″ deep steel platform on railings. By lowering the coach’s side wall, the space is separated from the interior by 12ft glass doors. These doors can be opened wide to expand the living space further.

As I’m reading the literature on the product I can see that the balcony deck can hold up to 3000 pounds of weight so you should be fine when you invite the local bear for a glass of wine on the balcony.

The steel deck is dual-layer and covered in vinyl so it’s easy to clean (or easier to clean because nothing about cleaning a motor coach is easy). There are also options you can add to your Veranda to customize it further. How about a LP stainless steel barbecue, or a 37″ high-definition LCD TV?

The luxury motor coach industry just reached a new level with the Country Coach Veranda. Now, if they can just find a way to get my retractable Pilates Reformer and spinning bike in there.

New kindle will come in October

There is a rumor that Amazon's Kindle line of e-book readers are likely to get new additions this October. The first model will be an update of the current model, with a larger screen size and an improved interface.

aamartech

The second new model will be considerably larger, shaped like an 8.5inch x 11inch piece of paper but will not be released for another year. There is currently no word on pricing for either of the models. The distinctive feature of the Kindle is that it can connect to the net to download e-books unlike the others which need to sync with a PC for new e-books

Play GOLF like a INDORE games

You play golf, but if you hate the outdoors, so you are going to move to the Netherlands, because they're on track to open this rad, giant, indoor golf course that you can play year round. Non-golfers won't understand what that means, but those of us in Seattle have a fairly short period that we actually get to go out and play, thus it's a crowded affair, making it very expensive. This magic land will have 34 indoor driving range berths, measure over 15,000 square feet, and feature weather-protected sand traps and water hazards. you are hoping George Jetson attends the opening, because his handicap sucks.

Laptop from V12 Design

V12 Design, an industrial design firm is working on version 2 of its Canova laptop. Not heard of it? It had a dual-touch screen form and all the pictures are of the older model, as the company has not released pictures of the new version. The company says they've improved on the design since then, but it will still be 16 months before they release the new version.

aamartech

They claim haptic feedback from the LCD meant to show the keyboard among other things that no other laptop has today. A massive bonus as anyone who's used a touch screen knows. Let's hope they can deliver on time, this long wait is likely to be worth it.

Look here for more picture. Thanks Joanna Stern
